A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is the electronic equivalent of a physical signature. It is issued by licensed Certificate Authorities and is used to sign documents electronically on government portals and for various compliance filings.

As of January 2021, Class 2 DSCs have been discontinued. All DSCs are now Class 3, which provides the highest level of assurance. Class 3 DSCs can be used for all purposes including e-filing, e-tendering, MCA filings, and more.

DSCs are available in 2-year and 3-year validity options. After expiry, you need to purchase a new DSC — renewal is essentially a fresh issuance.

Yes, a single Class 3 DSC can be used across all government portals including Income Tax, GST, MCA, CPPP, GeM, and more. However, some portals may require both Signing and Encryption, so an Org Combo DSC is recommended.

Once your DSC expires, you cannot sign documents with it. You need to purchase a new DSC. We recommend applying for renewal 2–3 weeks before expiry to ensure continuity.

No, a DSC is issued to a specific person or entity and cannot be transferred. Each individual or authorised signatory needs their own DSC.
